A Fire Department Built on Service
West Deer Volunteer Fire Department #2 has served Cheswick, PA, and the surrounding community for generations. Our department has grown through the years to meet changing needs, improve equipment, and continue supporting local residents with dependable fire protection and emergency response. Today, West Deer Volunteer Fire Department #2 remains committed to service, readiness, and community support. This page offers a closer look at our history and the department we continue to build for the future.
Our History
The roots of West Deer Volunteer Fire Department #2 began with land donated by Marian Aber. Over time, additions were built around the original station, which remained in service until 2014. That original structure was later demolished to make room for the building used today. The department’s social hall was added in the 1960s and remains part of the property.
In the department’s early years, West Deer Volunteer Fire Department #2 also launched the first ambulance service in West Deer Township. In 1946, members purchased a Dodge Power Wagon and outfitted it as a brush truck. In 1957, the department purchased the township’s first ambulance, a 1957 Cadillac. A new Howe-Chevrolet engine followed in 1958 as the department continued to expand its capabilities.
From the beginning, the department’s apparatus has always been red. While the trucks, station, and membership have changed over time, the mission has remained the same: serve the community, continue improving, and support the people who rely on West Deer Volunteer Fire Department #2. That long history of service still shapes the department today.
